Maria Callas was “the soprano assoluto” about wich fantastic tales were told in the 19th century, resistant to conforming to ready-made categories and intractable distinctions, the results of a corporate mentality. She was, in short, the soprano who was ready to tackle Wagner yesterday, Turandot today, the Verdi of Aida or La Forza del destino tomorrow, Norma the next day and so on, exploring the whole repertoire with the greatest versatility.
